Australians again top the well-off table.
In a recent article in The Australian (15th Oct 2014), Andrew Main explained that according to the Global Wealth Report from Credit Suisse, Australians had the highest median wealth per capita in the world (as at June 2014), for the 5th year running.
The report showed, the "median wealth per adult in Australia is US$225,000 (AU$256,211) – up 4.9% on the previous year's US$219,505 (AU$247,722), well ahead of it's closest rival Belgium, with US$173,000."
This is a credit to Australia's equitable spread of wealth throughout the population – as discussed by David McDonald, strategist at Credit Suisse Private Bank in Australia - "the top 1 per cent of wealthy people in Australia owned only 21% of assets and the top 5% owned 39% of assets. By comparison , the world average is that the top 1% own around 50% of assets."
The research also showed a "staggering 12.654 million Australian adults out of about 17 million adults are in the top 10% of global wealth holders."
So we are not doing too bad as a country.
Keep up the good work and keep saving and investing.
